Job summary
This is a working Team Leader position which requires interaction with subordinates on all shifts, other Team Leaders, managers, supervisors, inventory control, transportation and production as well as other aspects of the business. Responsibilities for overseeing all duties within the raw material storage areas throughout various shifts to include but not limited to: unloading of trailers, staging of incoming material, proper labeling, rotation and stocking of material, supervising of StonyWay and Recycling activities, provide ERP system support and related employee training. This person must be well organized and have the ability to prioritize and be decisive in order to effectively manage the material handling and StonyWay areas and the processing of incoming freight and related activities. This person will possess the ability to effectively manage the shifts staffing so as to produce maximum efficiency, while producing minimal receiving and inventory transaction errors. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills in this position are a must.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Evaluate shift workload and assign duties to maximize efficiency and accuracy
- Ability to understand and use a handheld PC, TekDan, and SAP.
- Follow all receiving and safety procedures
- Maintain cleanliness of receiving docks, warehouse locations, and receiving desk throughout the shift
- Operate forklift (including high lift) and electric pallet jack
- Load and unload tractor trailer/trucks
- Process damaged or rejected material in a timely manner
- Follow raw material stock rotation and recycling procedures
- Provide timely feedback to Material Handling Supervisor on performance and procedure issues
- Must follow and enforce Company Policies, SOP, GMP, and Safety guidelines at all times
- Able to lift 50 lbs. routinely
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to perform all functions of a Material Handler, StonyWay Operator, Resource Recycling Operator along with warehouse organization and space utilization.
- Must be process expert on all system transactions.
- Assist with recruitment of temporary and full time personnel
- Train new hires and update current workers in proper use of forklift and electric pallet jack operations, and receiving procedures.
- Insure that workers are dressed properly at all times (bump caps, steel toe shoes, eye protection, uniforms etc.)
- Responsible for creating an atmosphere which promotes an awareness and accountability for Safety, Quality and Efficiency
- Responsible for the financial performance of the department. This includes the scheduling of personnel and temp labor, managing overtime, labor costs and budgetary commitments.
- Conduct & lead brief shift change meeting at the start and/or end of each shift to provide clear communication and direction for all employees.
- Ensure that there is regular communication with Material Handling Supervisor to provide any pertinent information and to communicate other issues and concerns.
- Manage employee breaks and lunches.
- Monitor and execute the cleaning or brushing off of raw material external packaging to ensure no foreign objects or foreign material enters the processing, filling/production areas.
- Ensure that all partial cartons of cups, lids, or seals are fully sealed before return to stock.
- Identifies and acts upon new opportunities to enhance results and minimize problems. Persists in problem solving efforts. Seizes opportunities. Handles crises swiftly and effectively.
- Provide feedback to Material Handling Supervisor as required on shift performance and procedure improvements.
- Addresses all employee concerns appropriately and brings concerns to proper individuals, if necessary.
- Must be flexible and have the ability to work OVERTIME as deemed necessary to meet department demands and Company objectives.
- Work HOLIDAYS AND WEEKENDS as deemed necessary to meet department demands and Company objectives.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the sanitation and general housekeeping of the warehouse. Product must be properly handled, stored and rotated at all times using a FIFO mentality. The Material Handling Supervisor holds the Team Leader responsible for all actions that occur on his assigned shift.
- The Team Leader is responsible for all work assigned to and performed on their shift. He/She must be able to evaluate the quantity and type of work that is required and delegate tasks based on maximizing efficiency and accuracy.
- The Team Leader is expected to provide guidance and direction to all subordinates full time and temporary.
- The Team Leader serves as the point of contact for communication with other departments.
- The Team Leader is expected to provide regular feedback with regards to all daily personnel, equipment and process issues, also to present improvement concepts which assist to enhance and support growth and continued improvement.
- The Material Handling Supervisor relies on the Team Leader for accurate and timely feedback with regards to employee performance as it applies to reviews and disciplinary actions as the Team Leader will participate directly in the performance review process, employee relations issues & disciplinary actions.
- All personnel issues are dealt with quickly and accordingly by involving the Material Handling Supervisor so as to insure that the appropriate and necessary actions are taken.
- Able to take responsibility for the shift and is confident in making decisions based on job knowledge, daily needs and other ancillary factors.
- Exhibits positive “can do” attitude and promotes a strong and healthy team atmosphere.
SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES
- Up to date knowledge of systems necessary to perform duties and responsibilities
- May be called upon to be involved in updates, changes, or new implementations of system tools
- May act as a Themis team member when called upon to perform Themis support organization roles such as Business Process Lead, Key User, or End User Responsibilities (see defined roles)
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the efficient implementation of quality standards, programs and processes to improve operational efficiencies and reduce/eliminate production waste and spoilage.
- Support environmental programs established within the organization to include recycle all office wastes according to program guidelines, initiate power conservation techniques by turning off lights and Computers when not in use.
- Proactively look for ways to reduce negative impacts on the environment
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactively work in a safe manner in the context of performing the functions of your position
- Oversee the implementation and adherence to Company safety practices and programs and hold staff accountable for leading safety in the work place.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints.
- 3-5 years experience in shipping/receiving in a leadership role
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Must have good math skills and be able to understand and read English.
- Stand for long periods of time
- Able to perform in fast paced, team oriented environment
- Ability to adapt in a changing work environment
- Must be certified on the use of electric pallet jack and fork lift
- Excellent time management and leadership skills
- Leads by example, provides a good role model
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to bend and reach files and cabinets where records are stored.
- Office environment repetitive motion through computer use is required
- Manufacturing environment operating in areas where high noise, machinery and chemicals are present
- Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. routinely.
- Must be capable of being on feet (standing or walking) for long periods of time, possibly entire shift.
- Ability to work in a cold environment for extended periods of time
